All models made with Ray Dream Studio or its replacement Carrara Studio.

Some animations may require the Apple QuickTime Plugin to be played in the browser.

Clicking on the thumbnails/links below will open the larger graphic and/or animation in a new window.

Fury Base Alpha

Model Started: 08.30.2001

Last Update: 06.05.2002

I started this model late last year as an effort to better learn the new Carrara software. I decided to do a Sci-Fi/military base for three reasons: 1) The concept seemed like it would allow me a certain amount of flexibility, 2) I had found a great 'base' graphic online somewhere that gave me some ideas, and 3) Kevin and I had discussed putting together an animation of a starship bombarding a ground-based facility from orbit. Basically, he wanted something to blow up. :-)

Here's a page of a model I've been working on for about two years. I keep getting distracted then going back to it, etc., etc.

Sabre(100k)

Here are three quick renders of a design I've been toying with, off and on, for about a year now. I got the idea from a game graphic I saw on the Internet. can't remember where I saw it, but I think it was actually called "Sabre" or something close.

I got to playing around today (5.20.98) with a new method of creating a Star Wars type laser blast that was posted to the Ray Dream mailing list. So, I created a quick 'gun', put the laser blast together and decided to animate it. This is an extremely simple animation (1 sec).

Laser2d.mov(154k)
Same movie as above, except I looped it twice and added sound effects for the laser blast.

Anim4.mov(550k)
Here's a short QuickTime movie of the model below getting smacked by a torpedo. This was basically just me fooling around one weekend while suffering from Modeller's Block. Since I wasn't making any headway with the design itself I thought I'd animate it for kicks.

Anim4a.mov(682k)
This is basically the same thing as above except that I added the 'emboss' filter when exporting from QuickTime 3's new MoviePlayer. Why? Because I stumbled onto it and decided it looked kinda neat!

Here's a render of my very first starship design. The model remains unfinished, as it was mostly a learning experience.

This is a disturbing little animation put together with a tip from the Ray Dream Mail List. Basically, you take a digital color photo of a friend (or enemy!) and create a grayscale version. In RDS, create a 4E landscape using the grayscale photo imported as the map. Smooth off the edges a bit before accepting the landscape. Then, apply/overlay the color version as a shader over the landscape. Make sure the shader lines up properly and render. This animation is extremely rough as I didn't take much time to fine tune it. Took me only, what, ten minutes I think to put this together. Oh, when creating the landscape in 4E, make sure you specify the landscape size as the size in pixels of the grayscale imagemap that you'll be importing.

Here's a new animated GIF using my company's new logo. Just me goofing around trying to come up with something for the web site. Click the Hershey's Kiss looking graphic above to view.

Here's a static JPEG of my company's new logo. This and the below animation are mostly just tests to see how the logo would look in 3D. I've taken some liberties with the surface just to spice it up. A 'proper' version of this graphic - meaning, proper company colors, etc - will most likely wind up on the company website at some point.

Here's an animated GIF of the same logo. Unfortunately, converting to GIF made the background turn out like something from Pink Floyd's "The Wall".

Here's the original 2D company logo.
