  *yawn* What Month is It?

Well, it looks like I've fallen back into the bad habit of slacking on my site updates. I guess I just don't have the time or energy to update all that often. Every once in a while I'll get a bug up my butt and shotgun a bunch of updates, one right after another, but then I get lazy again and forget about the site for a couple of months.

To be fair, time really seems to be flying by these days. Seriously. I can't believe it's almost the end of freakin' September already. UGH I guess I should just accept the fact that I'm not going to update the site as often as I used to. Oh well. Such is life.

  Family Happenings

Let's see... My parents came up to visit over Labor Day weekend. That was nice. We got to spend a few days together and really enjoyed having them up. We had some good food, my dad and I did a little electrical work in the basement, we visited my new office building and just generally hung out and relaxed. It was very nice.

Oh, I almost forgot... Neddy and Laura came over for a cook-out on that Sunday. Kim and I figured it was about time we introduced them to my parents. They are, afterall, the people who introduced Kim and I way back at their Superbowl party in 2002.

Kim and I headed up for Kim's dad's 70th birthday dinner a few weekends back. The dinner was held at the same place we had our wedding dinner - this place called Dobie's that has fantastic food. They make a wonderful filet mignon that rivals anything I've had at the fancy steakhouses here around Chicago. And they really know how to make a killer dirty martini. Nice!

It looks like Kim is going to head up to northern Wisconsin this weekend to spend a few days with her parents and brother, Mark. She's going up Friday and coming back Wednesday-ish. Kim has all kinds of vacation time to kill, whereas I - on the otherhand - have like four days to get me through the end of the year, including Thanksgiving and Christmas. Sucks. Wish I had more time to take off. Oh well. I guess I'm bach-ing it this weekend! Which sucks as well, of course, 'cause I'm gonna miss my wife something awful and I wish she wasn't going or I wish I could go with and it's gonna' be so difficult being apart for four days and holy cow what am I going to do with my time and oh boy it's going to be so lonely around here and jeez Louise I just don't know if I'll survive!!!!

Okay... enough groveling.

  BSG Premier!

Roughly two weeks until the Battlestar Galactica premier on 10/6/06!! Yeah, baby! I'm both excited and concerned about where the new season is going. If you're a fan of the show, you know they ended last season with New Caprica being occupied by the Cylons after a two-year jump into the future (the colonists had been on-land for two years when the Cylons suddenly showed up). The remains of the colonial fleet, lead by Bill Adama commanding Galactica and a much heavier Lee Adama commanding Pegusus, jumped away and that was pretty much it.

Last I heard, from the official BSG Podcast, the intention is to spend just a handful of episodes with the colonists still on New Caprica, but then get them off that rock and back out into space. I can live with that, I suppose. It's just this whole two-year jump into the future that bugs the crap out of me (and a ton of other BSG fans as well). I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

FYI that the BSG producers are posting up these short, couple of minute, "webisodes" on the BSG website that are meant to give the viewer some kind of idea of what's been going on there on New Caprica since the end of last season. It's not critical to watch all these webisodes (I've only watched one thus far), but they are supposed to fill in a few holes.

More Painting?!? You Can't Make Me!

Yes, Kim and I are painting again. We did the main floor last fall and are now working on the second floor. We live in a townhouse, so it's not a huge amount of space, but we have two bedrooms, a bathroom and hallway to take care of. Needless to say, I'm not looking forward to it.

You see, I'm just not the type of person who enjoys spending all of my free time working around the house. I realize it's pretty much the price you pay for owning a home - unless you're crapping money and can afford to pay others to do it all - but I'm going down this path kicking and screaming. Literally. Kim can attest to the fact that I've been pouting like a little child about all this work.

Alas, holding my breath for five minutes until I turned purple and passed out did little to change Kim's mind, so we're painting again. The plan, as it currently stands, is to get the bathroom, hallway and second bedroom done by the time my parents come up to visit early September. After that, we'll take care of the main bedroom.

Thus far, we managed to get the bathroom and hallway ceilings done, and are scheduled to complete the bathroom this weekend. Not sure if that's going to work out or not. During the patching and spackling phase, I discovered a patched hole in the wall about the size of a shower curtain rod, about four inches to the left of where the shower rod currently sits. So, we're trying to figure out how to fix that up. It's easy enough to put some patch material over it, spackle, sand and paint, but then you end up with a raised section of the wall that will drive me crazy. As such, we're trying to figure out how to fix it without that happening.

The hallway is going to be a big pain in the butt, let me tell you. There's a section about three or four feet long at the very top, above the staircase, that can't be easily reached via ladder for taping and cutting in. We're going to have to get some kind of scaffolding solution in place so we can easily reach that section, otherwise it's going to look terrible. The good news is Home Depot has an extendable plank that goes between two ladders that should work perfectly. The bad news is, I'm phobic about ladders as it is, so stepping on a plank suspended over the staircase between two of them isn't exactly my cup of tea. I guess I'll have to suck it up. Or make Kim do it. Cause I really don't wanna. Guess I'll start holding my breath now...
