We arrived in Maui on the afternoon of Saturday, May 7, 2005, with the ceremony on Sunday and returning home the following Sunday morning. We stayed at the Sheraton Maui Resort, with AlohaMauiWeddings.com handling the ceremony, which was held at the Maui Tropical Gardens.
Enough good things cannot be said about all three pieces of the puzzle that turned out to be our wedding. The Sheraton was simply amazing. Seriously. The food - one word: onmygawd. No kidding. Steven says this:

I've eaten many great steaks in many great steak joints over the past fifteen years in Chicago, but I had to go to Maui to have the best steak I've ever had in my life. That little pat of melted garlic butter oozing over the top of my filet minon made me giddy all over.

Another, amazing aspect of our food experience was our introduction to sushi; in particular, sashimi ahi, which is Japanese sushi speak for raw tuna. Yes, raw tuna. Here's the thing, though: it was freaking amazing. Think of the most tender filet minon that you've ever eaten, and sashimi ahi is all that and more. It has the consistency of meat but it simply melts in your mouth. You have to try it to believe it. Kim says:

I kid you not - I thought I was eating meat until we asked the waiter what it was and he looked at me like I was some kinda hick. I mumbled a bit of a nasty reply and I think the waiter hocked a loogey on Steven's steak in response. Don't say anything, though, because Steven thinks it was some kinda garlic butter.

AlohaMauiWeddings.com was also great in helping to coordinate the event and really helped take a great deal of stress out of the whole ordeal. It wasn't supposed to be an ordeal, afterall, but a joyous event, and AlohaMauiWeddings.com helped make that happen.
Along with the wedding package was the choice of location for the ceremony. There were several options, including the very popular sandy beach, but we ended up choosing the more floral and lush Maui Tropical Gardens. The main reason we chose the Tropical Gardens is because we wanted some privacy and both of us liked the idea of having the ceremony in such a vibrant, living and colorful location. Yes, the beach is something that immediately comes to mind when people think of getting married in Hawaii, but that just wasn't us.
In the end, we couldn't have been happier with the whole experience and highly recommend it to anyone considering something similar.
